On the Banks of Plum Creek (1937)

The fourth of the ‘Little House’ books. The Ingalls family have moved to Minnesota and struggle with a plague of grasshoppers and severe winter blizzards. One snowstorm is especially memorable.

One part of the story demands illustrations. I couldn’t find any copyright-free ones, so I did them myself with Microsoft Paint. I’m afraid that they are rather wobbly.

First, off, thanks for these ebooks. What a treasure trove...

I've noticed, starting with these Laura Ingalls Wilder ebooks, that the cover image is being stored in the .prc in a somewhat different fashion than you have employed in the past.

Basically, the cover image can be displayed with the Mobipocket Reader, but there is no EXTH data specifying that the cover image is there. The ebook metadata is stored, but somehow the CoverOffset field isn't being set (sorrry to be too technical here).

My Mobi2IMP software doesn't see the cover image because the .prc is encoded differently than it would have expected.

Did you recently switch the software used to create the .prc version (for this series)? Change your steps vs. previous ebooks?

No, I haven't changed anything, Nick. I make an html0 file from Book Designer and put it into Mobipocket Creator. Then I add the cover as usual. It shows up when I open it in Mobipocket Reader.
I'm a bit puzzled by this too.

I think there must be a bug in your software when reading the EXTH header.

I've checked carefully, and this book has 13 EXTH records, including coveroffset, hasfakecover and thumboffset.

In addition, my QuickLook plug-in finds and displays the cover correctly.

Note that your output shows multiple 118 EXTH entries. I suspect that you're not handling 118 correctly, and accidentally re-reading the same EXTH record over and over.

Paul, you are right about a bug in my mobi decode routines I lifted from Mobiperl.

Mobi2html.exe (v.0.0.41) properly finds those EXTH entries that my software is missing, namely:
