Calibre won't open on Mac OS X Mavericks after changing font in "Look & Feel"

I changed the font in preferences "Look & Feel". Calibre tried to restart, but keeps crashing (i.e. it does not open at all).

What I've tried so far:

- repaired permissions
- repaired volume
- re-installed Calibre (copied calibre.app to the applications folder)
- cleared font cache with Onyx
- validated fonts

Here's the crash report from console.app:

edited to delete crash report

Thanks in advance for your help

ETA:
I've just run the calibre-debug -g:

Thank you, Time Machine!

I restored the gui.json in the Calibre library folder and voila - Calibre starts up again.

For future reference, a free OS X app AppCleaner will remove all of an app's supporting files when you want to completely uninstall an app. As you've discovered, calibre has supporting files that also need to be removed when uninstalling.

Also, from the debug trace you've posted, it looks like the Goodreads Covers plugin fails during initialization, and you have more than one iDevice connected, which the iOS reader applications plugin is complaining about. But, on the bright side, you're up and running again.

Glad to see you got it back up and running.

@blueinfj the Goodreads Covers Plugin is deprecated. From the first post of the plugin's thread:

Quote:
As of Calibre 0.8 this plugin is deprecated and will no longer work. Instead you should use the replacement Goodreads Metadata Source plugin which is compatible with Calibre 0.8 onwards.
This means when you get a chance you should remove the Goodreads Covers Plugin.

Thanks to both of you :-)

I checked for the Goodreads cover plugin, but can't seem to find it:

The only Goodreads plugins that are installed are Goodreads and Goodreads Sync.

@blueinfj - Have a look in the config\plugins folder, to get to config folder go to Preferences->Miscellaneous and click the Open calibre configuration directory button.

@blueinfj - can you confirm that before deleting those plug-ins that you were able to reproduce your original problem, and after deleting them you couldn't?

As DoctorOhh said - I was able to get Calibre up and running after restoring the gui.json from TimeMachine.

I ran the calibre-debug -g (after deleting the old plugins and disabling the debug mode for the iOS reader app) and this is the output:

That's normal debug output under OS X. The messages about Lucida Grande are due to an issue with Qt, the UI package that calibre uses. They're not cause for concern.

Thanks for confirming that. The log looked normal to me, but I'm no expert. ;-)
