I'd hazard a wild guess that perhaps the publisher funds them?

Damn, I wish they'd make it available for the Sony. I'd jump on it.

Got it, read it, liked it. Funny thing: the chapter about the solar yacht race is an almost verbatim copy of his 1964 story 'Sunjammer' (aka 'The Wind from the Sun').

Is it plagiarism when you copy your own stuff? ;-)

I've got it and am plowing through it. Not one of their best. I'm going to rate as poor.

Regards, Alex

Nope, and it's not new either - authors have been doing it for thousands of years.

I think it was Alistair MacLean (with apologies if I'm wrong) that is mildly renowned for, on some isolated occasions, copying entire paragraphs near-verbatim from one book to another, not to mention plots and character.

Still, he wrote enough that a little repetition every now and then might have been inevitable. It didn't appear to affect his significant fanbase.

Cheers,
Marc

Heck, the -Rolling Stones- (insert any artist with a modicum of longevity) have written the same song at least 20 times.*
