Cool Newspaper article re e-readers

In the local newspaper today was a fairly long article on e-readers. Sony got about 2 lines of newsprint, while Kindle got about 15 inches over two pages. and everyone who was quoted have Kindles.

Ahhh... yes... Amazon probably paid for the article... Articles like that are just advertisements.

Kindle has received heaps of attention lately due to the fact that they now sell their reader in Australia, whereas Sony doesn't even want to comment (I've asked them before I imported my precious)

That's totally untrue. No reputable newspaper would accept payment for editorial content. If an advertisement resembled an article in its layout or appearance, it would be flagged as "advertising feature" or something similar.

I also suggest that Amazon would be highly unlikely to pay for an advertisement that mentioned the Sony reader, even if it was only a couple of lines.

It's much more likely that the person writing the article had a personal preference for the Kindle, or some first-hand experienc of it.

Well Kindle is still the most well known....but with B&N releasing the nook and the plastilogic next year as well as Sony's presence in the stores for the Christmas season and their wireless reader next year, I expect it is changing fast.

My neighbor commutes daily on the DC Metro and she says that she sees Kindles everywhere. Of course, she may be mistaking other readers for Kindles or may be using the term Kindle as one would Kleenex. (She ended up buying 5 Kindles, one each for her, her husband and three children.)

Almost everyone I've run into with my Kindle recognizes that name but is not aware of the Sony products or any other brand names. Even when I use my Cybook people call it a Kindle.
