How to go back to version 1?

I upgraded to version 2.2 of Calibre, but it does not actually support Qt 4, which is what I have.

I can't find any place to move back to the last version of Calibre 1. Does such a place exist?

calibre comes with its own copy of Qt, it does not matter what you have. And if you want to go back to a previous release, instructions for doing so are on the download page.

Why would you want to move back to Calibre 1.48 just because it no longer supports Qt4? As was pointed out, Calibre comes with Qt5 so you don't need to have Qt5 previous installed.

Why do you care?

Why do you feel the need to point out something that has already been pointed out?

I can't speak for others, but *I* care because if there's actually some problem with Calibre 2.x then there should be a proper bug report so it can be investigated. Also to see if OP is using a provided download package or a distro package or running from source, and also if maybe there's a plugin that hasn't been updated to use QT5 yet.

The reason I want to is because the newest version does not minimize to the System Tray. That feature is dsabled because of a bug in Qt5.

See? Perfectly reasonable, even with a bug report that can be actioned, no need to get upset

The last 1.x release is available from http://download.calibre-ebook.com/1.48.0/. If you want all available calibre releases, you can go to http://download.calibre-ebook.com/.

You'll probably want to disable update checks until your bug is fixed. Open 'Preferences', choose 'Behaviour', and un-check "Show notification when new version is available". Click Apply, and you're done. Just don't forget to check back periodically to see if your bug is fixed

If you would rather use an updated calibre 2.x, it is still possible to enable the system tray:

Run from source and revert this commit: https://github.com/kovidgoyal/calibr...3f08edfcf40348

It will re-enable the option on linux, which will work for some desktop configurations and on other configurations will irretrievably hide calibre requiring "killall calibre" to get it back after minimizing.
On my system it works. (Arch Linux, cinnamon-desktop)

I found out how to get the system-tray icon to work. I have tried it with Windows 8.1 and not Windows 7. All you do is click the system-tray icon to minimize (don;t use the minimize button on the maim window) and use the system-tray icon to restore. If you do it like that, you don't get the icon on the task bar.

Ignore JSWolf.

The system tray was disabled on linux due to the inability to get it working reliably across desktop/OS configurations. And because Mark Shuttleworth is a control freak. And if you try using it anyway and it doesn't show up, boom. The only way to quit and restart a program that is only accessible via the system tray, without using the system tray, is.... killing the process from the task manager or via "killall".

Nothing to do with Windows, except that JSWolf cannot bear to think anyone would use anything else.

Wait, you mean... use it like normal? No wonder it works... on an OS it wasn't disabled for.

You are indeed a genius...

snerk (the OP) has not said which OS is being used. Linux was not mentioned at all. No OS was. So your trying to give help for Linux is no better/worse then my trying to give help for Windows.

IMO an application such as calibre shouldn't even have to bother implementing settings to enable things like minimise to tray etc. It should be part of the OS GUI, or the OS GUI should make it easy for 3rd party utilities to it.

Courtesy of a 3rd party utility, I have a buttons in the title bar on most windows of most applications for Minimise to tray, Roll up, Stay on top, Send to back, Centre, and Move to monitor.

I think I've seen utilities for Linux, although OS/X is more problematic.
