Video: 20-minute Interview with Eink at IFA 2011
Sriram Peruvemba, Vice President of marketing at Eink, gives us the latest news from Eink, they announced that they will ship between 25 million and 30 million Eink screens this year, just for the Eink e-readers like the Kindle 4 and Nook Touch. Yup you read right, 30 million of those devices to be sold this year.

I just watched the 5 first minutes ant found it very interesting. I didn't know that the standard eInk screen had the potential for much higher resolution. It was weird he was mentioning the controller for 300 dpi being made right now as if it didn't already exist...But the iRiver HD must have such a controller ?

LG has a license with EInk to build their own displays. They purchase the Eink film from Eink and then apply the other layers in their own production facilities.
They do work closely together. For instance when LG built their color Eink display for CES last January, the Eink engineers actually built the waveform to drive the display. Eink also has partners to help develop next generation displays for OEMs etc. So Eink themselves dont build display controllers. They work with Epson and TI to create/make components that can then be used with the EInk built displays that can in turn be used by other companies (Amazon, B&N, Hanvon, PocketBook etc etc) to build reader devices. |

ok still I find it weird that only iRiver came up with a higher resolution display. Maybe the others are waiting for the next generation of controllers for even higher resolution.

9.7” (or close) form factor at 300 dpi is a real “paper killer” tech.

Thank you Charbax for one more interesting video among the million cool videos you made !
If I understand mister Peruvemba correctly, a 300 dpi reader would have a lower contrast than a 167 dpi reader, just like we recently observed that the iriver 200 dpi reader has a slightly lower contrast than the Kindle 3. Or can we expect some progress on the contrast front ? |

Great interview, very insightful thanks for posting it.
Really curious on the implications being able to nearly double the current DPI we see on current generation e-Ink displays. |

The best video I've seen in a long time. Very informative. Couldn't help to note that he said that the color e-ink screen (Triton) already is shipping to there plants for mass productions (11:05 into the movie)
