Hybrid Wiki-Post: The way 1st post in each thread should be!

This may work well on a very limited case by case basis, but as a general rule of thumb???

Using the Calibre/Plugins forum as an example the first post is maintained by the developer of the plugin. The first post is also in a specific format so calibre can scrape updates from the post. In this instance it wouldn't make sense to open up the first post to editing by all.

If possible this might be applied to threads like the one you point out, but I imagine its use being very limited.

Of course I could be wrong.

I don't know how members would feel about just anybody having the ability to edit their first post. Are you suggesting that the ability be made global in all threads, or just as an additional option box ("Make Edit-First-Post Available to General Members") that the OP could check when creating the thread? As an option, if can be done, I could see the potential benefit.

Not a bad idea, if it can be implemented with a check box. To make the first post of every thread a free-for-all by default would only lead to mayhem. Hell, I'm not at all sure I could resist the temptation to wreak havoc myself after the occasional long, "humid" night.

Even sticky threads will be a rare exception. Often they are sticky threads because they have specific info that should not be altered by just anyone.

At present, just as with all other posts, the only people who can modify them are the OP and members of the moderating team.

Well yea this (as far as i know) hasn't been in any forum, so if MobileRead can do, it'd be awesome. Back to your point, I do agree with you on such a checkbox... so which admin should i make contact with for this?

Edit: As a way to reach for an admin, I just reported this thread!
