Amazon to sell ads on Kindle Fire front screen?
According to an article on AdAge, Amazon is pitching the idea of allowing companies to advertise on the Kindle Fire's Welcome Screen. The cost of advertising will reputedly be $600,000 for a two-month ad buy. Exact details are still rather sketchy.
I just thought the MobileRead community might be interested in this news. |

I read this on another blog this morning. If this does materialize it had better be optional or no more Fire for me. We are bombarded enough on websites.

An extension of the current ad-supported eInk Kindles, by the sound of it. I like the ads on my Touch, because they change, whereas you quickly get tired of the same old round of screensavers.

In order to bring those low, low prices, Amazon's gotta monetize whenever they can. Next up: ad-supported reader apps is my guess.

Well, perhaps that is fine for you but many of us detest ads, particularly on our ereaders. I really like the elegant screensavers on the KT.

I guess all new fire customers will have a chocie of an add and non-add supported fire. Have I got this wrong?

Assuming the ad supported eInk readers have been a success for Amazon it seems a natural thing for them to offer a version of the Fire with ads too. Certainly something they would explore at the very least.

It had better be an option. If they force the ads down on me I will flash my fire with a different android and say good bye to Amazon.

My guess is that you will have a choice, just like you have a choice on the Kindle.

An ad from Samsung that every week for two months offer one of their products at Amazon for a reduced price of 20 %. Would you detest an ad like that?

I like the offers on my kindle and appreciate the discounted purchase price. We have four Fires and are very happy with them. I would definately consider a bigger model for the wife and the offer option would be fine by me.

I fail to see how there is a "facade of choice" with their ad supported Kindles.
