now, I can telnet to KIndle but still can't connect to Internet
Here what I did: - install jailbreak - install update_usbnetwork_0.11.N_dxg_install.bin - install Windows Mobile Device Center (the linux.inf) - type in the search window of the kindle: ;debugOn then `usbNetwork - connect the Kindle to the computer - open network and sharing center > change adapter settings > properties of the new connection > open TCP/IPV4 settings > set IP as 192.168.2.1, subnet mask 255.255.255.0 - telnet to 192.168.2.2 and it works - Then I type `usbQa, my KIndle disappears from computer I don't know where my problems are ? and one more question, when register Kindle via usbnetwork, have to turn on Kindle's wireless or not ?? Yes, I have same ploblem.
It's unsolved bug. `usbQa will stop usbNetwork, and anyway there is no internet connection through your computer. |

Hello,
I've had a k2i since Jan last year but just got round to hacking it. My linux laptop is succesfully automounting the kindle nicely. I've turned on debug mode on the kindle. I can successfully copy small files to the kindle. However, when I try and copy across the network usb k2i .bin file something really odd happens. The k2i will appear to disconnect USB. Sometimes it then remounts and sometimes I have to manually reset the cable (well, pull it out, and it put it back in...). The file almost never copies across, except one occassion when it appeared to copy across, but the kindle threw a 003 error in the update process and deleted the update... back to square one. So I have a reproducible problem, I can also reproduce the same exact problem by copying a random 2mb file (a jpg). Digging into the kindle logs I can see the below pattern occurs when I try and copy: <pre> 110113:193701 cvm[2335]: I ScreenSaverBooklet:Information::start() reason DISPLAY_USB. Display USB screen 110113:193712 cvm[2335]: I HeapMonitor:HeapInfo:max=16777216,alloc=16777216,a vail=6029124: 110113:193734 cvm[2335]: E CdeAndTodoPlug:ExceptionCaught::caught Exception while downloading 110113:193734 cvm[2335]: java.io.IOException: Stale NFS file handle 110113:193734 cvm[2335]: at java.io.FileOutputStream.writeBytes(Native Method) 110113:193734 cvm[2335]: at java.io.FileOutputStream.write(Compiled Method)(FileOutputStream.java:257) 110113:193734 cvm[2335]: at java.io.BufferedOutputStream.flushBuffer(Compiled Method)(BufferedOutputStream.java:67) 110113:193734 cvm[2335]: at java.io.BufferedOutputStream.write(Compiled Method)(BufferedOutputStream.java:106) 110113:193734 cvm[2335]: at com.amazon.ebook.framework.impl.ws.l.a(Compiled Method)(lpb:184) 110113:193734 cvm[2335]: at com.amazon.ebook.framework.impl.ws.e.a(epb:257) 110113:193734 cvm[2335]: at com.amazon.ebook.framework.impl.ws.g.A(gpb:332) 110113:193734 cvm[2335]: at com.amazon.ebook.framework.impl.ws.g.b(gpb:218) 110113:193734 cvm[2335]: at com.amazon.ebook.framework.impl.ws.g.run(gpb:281) 110113:193734 cvm[2335]: at java.util.TimerThread.mainLoop(Timer.java:435) 110113:193734 cvm[2335]: at java.util.TimerThread.run(Timer.java:385) 110113:193734 cvm[2335]: at java.lang.Thread.startup(Thread.java:758) 110113:193734 cvm[2335]: 110113:193734 cvm[2335]: E CdeAndTodoPlug:TooFewBytesDownloaded:expected=6950 04,read=107380,rate-info=(20048+326910 ms_ 2 kb/s): 110113:193734 cvm[2335]: I TaskProcess:ProcessingFinished.:status=retry later: 110113:193734 cvm[2335]: I TaskProcess:ProcessingTaskList:loc=107:TaskProcess .user store not available, abort todo processing. 110113:193734 cvm[2335]: I TaskProcess:ProcessingTaskList:loc=10:done processing todo list </pre>. I've done a fair bit of googling and have not been able to find anyone with the same problem... all seems mighty odd - any ideas anyone? Thanks. |

Funny, I think I had a similar issue with my DX today (altough I have to admit that I didn't fully read your post..)
Turns out my problem was sticking the cable in a different USB hole, Had it in the front and as soon as I tried to copy something to the kindle (in my case the update from amazon) it disconnected. Put it in a USB hole in the back - no problems.I figured it got more power from the back or something. So maybe this helps. |

Somebody else mentioned the same issue with a DX as well. I'd go with what highwaykind said and try a different USB port. Avoid using USB hubs as well since they seem to cause weird issues for some devices.

Kindle DX Graphite--keeps prompting for password, telnet connection refused
Hi All,
I'm getting soo close but not quite able to ssh into my Kindle DX Graphite, I hope you can help. Setup is as follows: Host OS: Ubuntu 10 Kindle firmware: 2.5.8 USB Network update version: v0.35.N (10/19/2011) Everything goes smoothly up to getting an IP assigned to the usb0 interface: PHP Code:
Also, if I try to telnet, I get a connection refused, which may also be significant. I even made sure to check and ensure that ssh'ing to that IP with the Kindle disconnected failed altogether, just to ensure I must be successfully at least talking to the right machine :-) Any ideas on how I may have screwed this up would be greatly appreciated! Edit: Found the problem--I assumed the host IP settting in the config file was for my PC, and that the IP assignment line int the instructions had a typo. By mindlessly following the instructions exactly, it worked just fine :-) Further Edit: Ok I get it now. The host ip is the ip you will bind to the usb0 interface on your PC. Makes sense now. So that gets bound to the interface but then you ssh to the Kindle's IP, which is naturally different. Last edited by rastoboy; 01-22-2012 at 06:56 PM. |

Where do I find update_usbnetwork_0.11.N_dxg_install.bin?
I've looked in all the archives in http://www.avenard.org/kindle2/ and I can't find any that contain this update.

I have tried Windows 8 developer, Windows 7 64-bit, and XP. But none of those PCs recognize the Kindle DXG (I have installed Mobile Device Center/ActiveSync). Any ideas?

Or do I have to downgrade the DX to firmware 2.5.8? I am on 3.2.1, currently.
