New Basic Kindle
Anybody heard any rumors/have any idea when we will get a new Basic Kindle? I won't buy anything with a back or frontlight and I don't like the keyboard on my 2/3 year-old Kindle Keyboard. I'm really looking forward to a basic kindle that has a battery of the same size as my KK. Any ideas?
Thanks! |

I'm wondering if they will release a new one this year. I'm afraid they won't since they haven't already done so. In the last few years they released all the new models at the same time.

Maybe it's also possible that there won't be a new "basic" Kindle, but rather that the older touch-models will serve as the new ones after a few generations, when their price has dropped significantly.

Agreed. At this point I think it is doubtful that there will be an update to the basic Kindle this year.

I was afraid they will discontinue these models and I wanted a non-touch screen. I wanted it to be like the Paperwhite, but the Amazon developers aren't going to do this for me |

I don't like touch screens and I love the buttons in the basic Kindle. I really don't mind paying more for a basic model with the PW screen. Unfortunately I guess I'll have to live with my K4

The K4 is great reader! I love mine but I do wish they would update the firmware and give us the time to read feature at least!

At Amazon.de in Germany the basic Kindle is now (for several weeks) offered at 49 EURO. It is w/o SO! And this is so far the best eReader for price value in Germany.
The New PW wifi is offered to Prime customers (29 Euro per year in Germany not comparable to US Prime!) in Germany at 99 EURO! Amazon does feel the German competition of the Tolino eReader with front light (99 EURO) for German ePubs offered by a consortium. The software is not as good as the PW but you have wifi all over Germany at 12000 Telekom hot spots. |

I recently bought one too, I'm waiting for the lighted cover to arrive. I already have a Paperwhite but wanted a button kindle as well, and as they don't do a front lighted basic the lighted case will have to do.

The contrast on the K4 Black version is amazing! I've recently started reading on mine again. I use my PW1 for night reading and the K4 for downstairs that may changed once my HDX gets here.

I wanted the lighted cover, but it is $60! Will this cover wake up the Kindle like it does on the PW and KFHD? It is suppose to have on the menu "Lending Library" (I thought) but it wasn't there so I had to use "Kindle Store" and search the slow way to use Prime Lending book. I also find the keyboard fine to use, actually better than the K3 keyboard and the touch on the PW. Since I had to input the wifi several times, for some reason it didn't save the first two times. Anyway I like the dark contrast of the fonts. I noticed though in one book from my sans serif font didn't overide the publishers. Guess I will have to side load from Calibre. |
