This is definitely a long shot, but in the description of the test subject they say, that they were provided a sample in black and another in white:

"The EUT has black & white, which are electrically identical to each other except for exterior color." (Page 7, of "Test Report NII")

At the moment, the only model Kobo offers in black or white is the Kobo Libra 2. (This was also true for its predecessor, the Libra H2O.)

So it might be another iteration of the Libra.

the current Kobo Libra 2 has a model number of N418. It is the only Kobo starting with "N4". So it sure looks like that this N428 is a new Libra model.

I have thought of this aswell.
But unfortunately, as far as I know the model numbers for Kobo e-readers are pretty much random. (Or if there is a concept behind them, we were never able to decipher it...)

There have been other 400 numbers, that have nothing to do with the Libra lineage. N416 was the very first Kobo e-reader ever from 2010. N437 was the Glo HD.

Likewise all the predecessors to the Libra 2 had very different model numbers. Libra H20 was 837, Aura H20 was 250.

Here is a list of model numbers. Maybe someone can make sense of them.

I can't see any logic to the numbering.

An N428 could be replacing any model. Which currently sold ones don't have USB-C? That's more likely than a new Libra 2.

My guess is a Libra 2E.

Like the Clara 2E, it will be made in part with recycled plastic.

Other changes?

Shame it's unlikely to be a beefed up Sage - faster processor and bigger battery would have been nice

It tells me....

We know it has WIFI 2/5 and Bluetooth; the application was granted on October 15, 2023. Typically, when Kobo gets approval on a new e-reader, this is the last step in an entire release. In the past, when they got FCC approval, it usually took 3-4 months for something to come out since they still needed to do an entire manufacturing run.

No guarantees of anything but that time scale might offer a reasonable suggestion as to when something could be expected. It might, if that holds up, be a little late for a Christmas targetted release...?

Why does the Nia even exist? It's just a worse Clara that isn't cheap enough to justify its limitations. A new 5" model would at least have a purpose within the current model lineup.
