While not retired yet, my observations of married (or otherwise partnered) retirees is:
The HoneyDo list does not get shorter. The HoneyDo list in fact grows by a factor of 10 to accommodate the hours (including commute time) that you could not service the HoneyDo list. You will have no trouble filling up your time |

I plan on establishing a rather flexible schedule that includes things I want to do now but for which I never seem to find the time. At the top of my list is spending a few minutes in meditation each morning.

Retirement, isn't that another word for unemployed?
I was retired once, then my rent went up and I had to get a job. |

I was experimenting with Full Contact Downhill Skiing, but all the snow boarders' mommies started to complain.

We volunteer..........myself.......at my teacher/daughters school, both at her room an my granddaughters. Others pick the local hospital, or pet shelters or whereever, and let me tell you, they are Godsends. Some of us are lucky enough to live close to the kids/grandkids and again, are Godsends.....we send them home when we've had enough! If we're fortunate enough, we travel.....if not, we just thank the Gods we have enough to eat and pay the bills. We enjoy the lack of pressure to get up every morning and HAVE to be somewhere. We've raised our kids, done our duty, and now its time for us......some of us aren't quite sure what that means, (me!) but its just another adventure in the road of life. I stopped watching the weather channel when we moved from north Arkansas.....I know what the weather will be like here..........frickin' HOT in the summer, and lovely in the winter/early spring/late fall. |

That's what my dad did. And he had a very happy retirement. Then again, he spent his career (utility lineman) out in the weather, putting things back together, so sitting back and cackling at the misfortunes of the young Turks who had the duty after him was probably pretty amusing.

I'll never retire. When I can afford, I'll stop working for money and start doing volunteer work, sharing what I have with others.
