Angry Windows partition running out of space during add

Recently my copy of calibre has effectively been unable to complete the add process claiming that no space was left on device. I tried to update the temp library environment variable and thus totally failed to stop running out of space. I'm already in a position that I was able to move the physical library to an external drive but that failed to resolve the issue. Does calibre have to be installed somewhere else like the external drive to stop using this partition to do it's work?

@jpcookie No, but it's always a good idea to keep data away from the system drive/partition - ebook libraries, photo collections, tax returns etc.

Could you copy the error details to the clipboard and post here.

How much free space does Windows report is on system partition?

When did you last run a Disk Cleanup or equivalent?

To what location did you set CALIBRE_TEMP_DIR?

What version of calibre are you using, and which edition - 32bit, 64bit or portable?

32 bit. F:\Calibre temp which I created on the drive. I ran cleanup ahs that failed to dislodge anything. It claimed that there was nothing to cleanup.

That's odd, there's almost always something to clean up - in temp, recycle bin, windows update leftovers etc. I don't have vista but IIRC it's not too different from Win7.

Can you post the error details and how much space is windows reporting is free on the system partition.

Most calibre error messages can be copied to the clipboard, eg

Spoiler:

Question, on these drives you are using, how much disk space do you have free? Also, go in and manually delete what's in the temp directory as an overfull temp directory can cause problems.

What about this portable app. Does it keep its temp files local to removable media like a flash drive?

No - but you can point CALIBRE_TEMP_DIR to any location including a flash drive.
