You know you want to read of a world where the people are in dire straits on;y to rise up and take back what is theirs to make for themselves a better life. Sure, it has aliens, but it also has hope, redemption, and a happy ending.

1984 is the kind of book that seemed deep to me as a young and impressionable adolescent with no discrimination. Nothing would get me to read it again. On the other hand, I have happy memories of both AK and AoI and waited to vote for whichever one could stave off revisiting Winston Smith.

Looks like Anna Karenina has taken the lead. A thrilling race from start to finish.

Argh Anna Karenina is almost 350,000 words!

I already have my >= 300K book for this year and it's The Wise Man's Fear. I think I'll need to give Anna Karenina a miss for now. But some people have given this book pretty strong endorsements such as 'best book ever written' so I'll download it anyway for later reading.

I'm really starting to pile on the classics that I must read before I die. I have all of Dostoyevski lined up as well as Woman in White and some Dickens. Grrr! Public Domain is a double-edged sword.

In Goodreads there was an edition of Anna Karenina that was broken into two parts. You could always add both and then you'll be able to count the book twice.

Additionally, I believe you can add multiple additions of the same book and then complete them both at the same time.
