It is indeed very badly written, and the plot is simplistic to say the least. I cannot understand its success, and it just horrified me to read that Hollywood is going to film it. I can just imagine the result... 9 1/2 weeks (which already was not exactly a masterpiece) on steroids.....
Mind you, I read it, because I wanted to know what the buzz is all about. Well, for me it's the equivalent of bad porn, but for women (as in women read, men watch). And no, I won't explain what good porn is |

They are awful. I read the first two to see what the hype was all about. As a women I find them quite insulting, nothing wrong with erotica, but there is no need to insult our intelligence with such drivel.

I've had people tell me they loved the books. I heard the ladies behind the dentist counter talking about them (they didn't name them, I just had intuition). I've seen friends and neighbors on facebook going gaga over them. Ugh. I can think of 5000 other books I'd rather read. When I get done with those and have nothing else to read, maybe then I'll pick up 50 Shades. Also, hell will be frozen over.
There are so many better erotica books to read. |

I haven't read it, have no desire to read it, don't know anyone who's read it. Based on what little I've heard about it, I find it rather disturbing that it's become a best-seller.

I haven't read this, but know one person that has. I did read sections of the book she had and the writing style about drove me crazy. I kept flipping to other sections to see if it magically transformed. I was not impressed nor intrigued enough to even accept the offer to borrow it from her. She doesn't think it is a good book, but finds that she just keeps reading it - that there must be something to it, right?
To each their own - if readers like it and are excited to read, then that is something. Right? They are reading. I did do a little look up for information about things I had heard of the origination of the book and found the below pretty quick. Now, I have an idea why comments say it sounds like something by a teenager and makes me feel ... ?? don't know how to phrase it, but I certainly hope people don't think my reading taste includes that as a great piece of literature. As others have said, there has been and is much better erotica out there. E.L. James and the Case of Fan Fiction - Publishers Weekly Spoiler:

My wife tried reading it, she didn't make it through 2 chapters. She told me that it was one of the worst written books she had ever been subjected to.

Like a lot of books, you either like it or hate it. I wouldn't like to contaminate my Kindle with this type of book, so I guess you could say I hate it.

I read all 3 books. I found it a horribly written fanifc that was written for the author not for the readers. It followed no formula and the male lead was a sociopath with serious mommy issues and the female lead had serious self images problems which kept her in the abusive relationship.
The repetitiveness of the books made me want hit my head against the wall. The formula for the book was fight, have sex and rinse and repeat. No issues are ever resolved and the heroine has a very limited vocabulary. I cringe now when I hear the words "My Inner Goddess" |

The lowest common denominator department would seem to be where this belongs.....
Rubbish which ticks all the low spots will always appeal to some - it seems this hasn't scraped the barrell, it's scoured and sand-blasted it . |
