Amazon sends out Kindle ad disguised as a press release
I just got this press release in my inbox this morning. There isn't much actual news in the release, so normally I wouldn't report on it. But then I started wondering why it was sent. It's not written like a press release; it really feels like an advertisement.

It's probably just a quick release / response to the articles about how the B&N and Sony devices are facing shortages.

I mean, who would they be advertising to with this -- PR staff? Media flacks?

And is the category of "Press Release" so pure and unsullied by commerce, that it should have nothing to do with marketing or advertising?

Agreed. Still, I have no doubt that some of what passes for technology columnists these days will bite. If they actually had a big announcement coming they would tease it, just to keep folks from buying other products in the interim.

I agree, I don't see anything unusual with this. They're bragging about how their product is great and sales are good. This is what a press release is for. This one is aimed at investors (to reassure them that Amazon is making profit on this), Kindle owners (to reassure them that they bought a great product) and potential buyers (to nudge them in the right direction before Christmas).

I agree with Kali - just a knee jerk reaction to the Nook supposedly being available today. Hope to hit those who might of wanted the Nook for Christmas but now can't get it.
