ZIP Files App ?

Anyone know of an app I can use to ZIP or Un-ZIP files ? A plus if it does
.rar files too.

Thanks,

There is a bluetooth sharing app that (by accident?) lets you unzip and extract files. Not sure if it lets you zip them up though.

I downloaded an app in zipped format, and Astro file manager automatically presented it to me as an apk file. Not sure about the rest.

Astro File Manager Download

I googled "Astro File Manager" and found what looks like something. However,
when I try to install it I get the same old message about ..."no phone"... .

There must be a simple work-around that doesn't mess up the PE.

Yes, use your PC to download and unzip as necessary. Doing it that way also gives you a backup of the apps on your PC should you ever need to reinstall them.

You can then use ES File Explorer LAN setting to see and install from your PC - assuming you have enabled lan sharing of the directory you have unzipped the files to.

The PE will unzip apps if you just double tap the zip file.

For .rar files, I'm pretty sure 7-zip has an android app. Just google it.

Googled it. No such luck for android. Quoting 7-zip developer from second message at this thread: https://sourceforge.net/projects/sev.../topic/4410614

I use same source code for all Windows versions (Windows CE and Desktop Windows). The only difference that Windows CE version contains additional dialog boxes for small screens. Android probably requires another additional new code. Now I have no plans to do it. I even don't know how complex is to port 7-zip to Android. If Android supports posix interfaces, maybe it's possible to compile p7zip?

I think Glow is right that Astro File Manager will work on just about anything except maybe files compressed with 7zip. For those you might want to check out AndroZip File Manager.

Personally, as Ivan suggests above, I prefer to use my PC to manage .rar files with 7-zip...so simple, fast and easy. To make it work on your PE will involve some hunting, research and lots of experimenting but, depending on your needs, might be worth it to you.

A long press on a zip file in ES File Explorer will give you an "extract here" option.
