computer crashed settings wiped
ok So my computer suffered a complete melt down and I have had to start things over from scratch. My settings in Calibre that sent my books to a specific location on my Kobo reader are gone. Where do I go to reset that directory option? for example it was set to "Reader\caliber\" and all my books would be dumped there.

Could be this: connect the device, then go to Device --> Configure this device. At the bottom of the first tab (File Formats) you use the template editor to set the folder you want calibre to send your books to. Never done this before, but maybe this can help jog your memory?

The save template of the driver is the correct place to do it. The save template is also on the "Sending books to devices" page of the preferences. This the default and will be copied to the driver configuration when you open that.
