Charles Bukowski
Any recommendations on authors to look into for a Bukowski fan?

Never heard of him, I'm afraid! What sort of books does he write?

Maybe Bertha Cool and Donald Lam series by A. A. Fair.
Some similiar authors IMO in this list http://www.hardcasecrime.com/ Helen |

Love Bukowski.... Read most of his books and his Poetry... Tom Waits is a huge fan of his as well. I would highly recommend Post Office for anyone who has ever had a dead end job. He worked night shift at the Post office for a decade... great yarn in my opinion...and He is definitely NOT politically correct. His poetry is in a prose format for the most part Like Margret Atwood's early poetry.... Ham on Rye is another that I like. Definitely a Pulp writer and he was a Hard core Alki to boot...

Europe actually is where he made it big first not in the US...Though he was born in Germany, He grew up in LA...and was a self-proclaimed Alki from his teenage years till his death. The film Bar Fly is loosely based on his life and Me thinks he wrote the screen play for that film...

I Love and Hate his poetry, have never read any of his prose.
I'm not sure I know any others like him. |

I tried plugging his name into the literature-map tool. Have a look at the results: http://www.literature-map.com/charles+bukowski.html

Dennis E Bolen, a writer from around my neck of the woods and a guy I know has been compared to Bukowski... though, like anyone who is compared to great like Bukowski the comparison could sour the read because the master is almost always that.

I've only read Bukowski's "Hot Water Music", but based on that I would suggest Richard Braughtigan, and the story collection "Knockemstiff" by Donald Ray Pollock (think of it as Bukowski set in rural Ohio).
