um... likely to be a bug in mupdf. Can you share this file to the developers?

As a workaround, you can convert it to djvu, which should load faster in KPV.

OK, I have a good news for K4 users. Following geekmaster and hawhill's instructions, I successfully ported KPV's eink control module to K4. Following is a screen cast of my friend's K4 running the next generation of KPV with the new UI framework. It is displaying a test PDF document.

Now we need to finish the UI framework ASAP and write lots of menus, because we only 9 keys on K4 ;P

If you count the buttons on the right and left edges, we have 13 keys. And my testing shows that you can see ALL combinations of keys as well, so you can use multiple shift keys. In fact, I designed and tested (but not completed) a chording keyboard that uses thumbs sideways across the button pairs on each side of the 5-way, and the side buttons to select row or column in an on-screen character matrix. You "roll" your thumbs to press one or more of the two buttons under them (for row or column 0-15), then press a "row" or "column" select key on the sides before releasing the thumbs. It works well with practice, but I have a lot of work to do on it when I resume that project...

The (unfinished) onscreen keyboard I am doing for the touch is also being designed for the K4, with "up/down/left/right" links between the keys. I have WAY too many unfinished projects that I bounce between (this is a hobby, so I do whatever seems most interesting at the time)...

Anyway, the point of this post was "13 keys" (plus any combination of them).

Oh yes,

But I have to admit that these four buttons are much harder to press compared to my K3...

The way I hold it when entering text, the front buttons are pressed with thumbs, and the side buttons with index fingers. Quite easy with a little practice (see the chording keyboard description above).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chorded_keyboard

I bought a "Twiddler" back in the early MIT "wearable computing" days. I was pretty fast with it. Because it was a one-handed keyboard, I got teased a lot about it being useful for surfing porn.

I think that using the K4 as a chording keyboard could be MUCH faster than an onscreen keyboard with the 5-way to select characters. But I plan to make my touchscreen keyboard work with the K4 5-way for people who prefer that.

BTW, I plan to make an (pseudo) /proc event-device for my keyboard to output to, with selectable keycodes, so it can easily integrate into exisiting K3 and DX native-mode programs (when it runs in the background)... I suppose that I should resume that when I get some time in about 5 weeks... If you guys want to use my ideas, go ahead...

This is the menu system I suggested to Foxit eslick, and some of them was adopted in later firmware. Note eslick only have a five way button, that is 5 keys.

Press center button anytime bring out the menu, then press the 4 direction for 4 different sub menu.

I only see one file of C++ here:
http://github.com/hwhw/kindlepdfviewer
and that is just "Lua Glue" to cre.

The bulk of the Kpdf application is in Lua, see: http://lua.org for more info.

Chording keyboard for k4 looks cool I am interested in how much faster it could be. I have never used that kind of keyboard before.

Thanks for the advice, I have marked it in the issue page. I hope in the future, we can have more than one style of menus so users can switch between them.

I takes holding it a certain way, and a lot of practice, but you can get really fast (but not as fast as touch typing). For the K4 scheme I designed it would be a two-hand hold using both thumbs and both index fingers. A traditional chording keyboard is a one-handed keyboard (which for some strange reason makes people watching you use it make comments about using it for pr0n)...

Regarding chording speed, Thad Starner can do 67WPM on a Twiddler after using it daily for 10 years.

If we are lucky, we should have a simple working demo this week because I have so many new books in my reading list ...

However, the demo might be far from beta version because it will lack some features like highlight support, manual cropping etc. It will take some time to gradually move all these features from the old code base to the new UI framework.

Glad to hear that you want to help out As knc1 has pointed out, we only use C++ to write the glue code for CREngine and most part of KPV is written in Lua. So you need to first learn some Lua.
