I don't recommend elephants. They are hell to housebreak, you can't keep them out of the fridge, and they are just NOT something you want to cuddle with on a cold evening!

On the other hand, muggers do NOT attack people who are out walking their elephants.
You can make very nice gift wrapping paper out of their dung. (Actually, you can make a LOT of very nice gift wrapping paper...) It sells at high price in Malaysia and Thailand.
They are very handy for moving trees.
Maybe you should consider trying out an elephant...

you do make a good point. perhaps i should consider trying out an elephant. some advantages that come instantly to mind : probably it would "enlarge" the stairwell the first time i took it upstairs (i don't think it could fit otherwise), which would make things a lot easier for me when i come home with the groceries. and i bet it could help me put a larger window in the kitchen as well. and if the upstairs or downstairs neighbors are being too loud, it could just stick its trunk out the window and tap on *their* window to tell them to keep it down.

Very true. On the other hand, what would a hippo be useful for? It would also scare burglars I'm sure...

Hey, did someone add the hairy spider? I didn't see it before! I want to change my vote! Spiders are very useful, and you don't need to feed them or to find them a foster home when you go on holidays. On the other hand, they are not very affectionate, but neither are snakes - or are they? And what about hippos?

We need more facts

I imagine it will eventually be possible to create an artificial pet so unbearably cute that people won't be able to force themselves away from them - and civilisation will collapse as a result.

yes. preferably the door to someone else's house, far away. i'd also like to mention, by the way, that pets are not allowed in any apéro locations.

Nice pics. How old? We have one that is going on 3 now, he is just shy of 4 feet long.

To be honest though I did say dog as my perfect pet. I've always been a dog person, but cat would have been the runner up. The iguana is neat, and you can't beat the coolness factor, but you can't play fetch with them, and while you can sort of snuggle with them that is mostly them sitting on you because you're warm
