Can I add multiple books to a collection

I'm a pretty new user with my Kindle 2 (2.5). Can I move lots of books at a time into a single collection ie SciFi or do I have to it book by book? Can I do it via Calibre? Other software?

I am not aware of any external way. Perhaps some day when the Kindle Apps stuff goes on-line, or one of the clever people around here come up with a "hack". Otherwise, the best I know of is to go to the Home screen, move the underline under the desired collection, move the 5-way to the right, and select the add/remove books option, then go down through your list of books and click on each one you want to add.

There's not even a way of selecting all items not in a collection and moving them to a collection?

No - you have to select the collection - then scroll through your screens adding books.

I haven't seen any posts where someone has hooked their Kindle to a PC - would be interesting to see if collections show up as "folders" - might be worth a try.

It appears to be in [Kindle Drive]:\system\collections.json as a JSON object. It's hard to read the long, one-line string, so I parsed it into a PHP array and output that via print_r(), with this result shown below. The names in the format "#B002WAUVNC^EBOK" look to be easily derived from the files of those books downloaded from Amazon (ASIN number plus the "EBOK" label from the file name), but I've not yet guessed how the longer hex strings (starting with "*") are derived from non-Amazon books. I'm guessing some encoding of the file name, but...???

I know this thread is obsolete but since I found it in a Google search I thought it might be worthwhile to post a quick update. You can now sort or filter a group of books or docs in my content, then select all (or multiple lines), and use the add to collection button. (The deliver button is also handy for multiple deliveries).
