0092, 0093 woes

Hello there and good evening!
I am experiencing some formatting issues in reading certain books transferred from Calibre to my Paperwhite Kindle.

The figures 0092/0093/0094, etc are displayed instead of words, in various, random places.
I have tried reconverting the file output to AZW3 format but this has not solved the problem.
Are there any other solutions out there please?

Thanks

Have you stripped any fonts out of the books? Problems with weird, wrong or missing characters are often caused by text containing characters that are not in the used font. This is one (and imho the only valid) reason why books embed fonts.

Where did these books originate from?

Could those be single and double quotes? The notation suggests character entity encodings that have accidentally been converted into plain text, where as they should show as they character the number represents.

I wonder if your conversion has been set to the correct character encoding on both ends etc.

Yes, that's almost certainly an encoding issue. You might play around with calibre's input options (Preferences, Conversion, Common Options, Look & Feel, Input character encoding).

I got rid of these punctuation display problems for a book being viewed on a PW by setting calibre's Input Character Enoding to cp1252, Smarten punctuation to "on", and Transliterate Unicode Characters to ASCII to "on". I tried each of these in this order and the third one fixed the conversion from AZW3 to MOBI.

Smile Thanks

I know this is a reply to a 6 year old post, but just to say that I am new to this and had the OO92 problem. I did all 3 suggestions at once and it cured the problem immediately, so thanks for the advice.
