Exporting Kindle (iphone) books to other iphone reading apps

Hi all,

I am new here at this site - just found it today.

I own an iphone (3G) and currently own the following reading apps:
Kindle, ereader, stanza, and of course ibooks.

Purchasing on kindle is the cheapest and with the sending of samples, very convenient as well. However, it is a very primitive reader compared to the others. There's no dictionary, first of all, no night background function (background becomes black to reduce fatigue of the eye), etc..

I was going to stop purchasing books on amazon, but prices on other sites are a LOT more expensive.

Is there a way to export kindle books to other readers? So I can take advantage of better reading programs but still be able to make purchases with amazon prices?

Hope someone can help. Thanks!

Easy? Not really, no. Possible? Sure. You need to somehow get the books out of Kindle (you can do that by using a tool that can read iPhone backups and pull files out, then look for the .azw files in the kindle directory and open them in Kindle for PC to verify which is which). Once you've gotten your hands on the Kindle files, you then have to break the DRM (not going to help with that here -- google is your friend). Once you have broken the DRM, you can load the files into a tool like Calibre and convert to other formats (pdb for ereader, epub for Stanza or iBooks). Once you have the books in the target formats, you can load them into your books however you like (sync through itunes, put them on a webpage and download them, download them from the calibre server, etc).

What toddos said, with the addition that Kindle for PC is the easiest Kindle format to remove DRM (encryption) from. You should be able to download most (perhaps all) of your existing Kindle ebooks to K4PC. See Apprentice Alf's Blog for a good summary of DRM issues. For K4PC, unswindle is easiest and skindle is less likely to be broken by an Amazon upgrade to K4PC.
