iPad Do the iPad’s missing apps point to a multitasking dashboard?

Not sure if its true, but the home screen did look oddly..sparse.
(Also, the demos showed the home row with the classic iPhone/Touch 4 icons-my understanding is the actual SDK Simulator shows 6 icons)

Look more closely when you re-watch the keynote. There are a bunch of apps on a second screen. I think Apple is just trying to keep the focus on a few specific tasks for the current "marketing hype" period.

As for those simpler apps, they could still show up later. If Apple added such a major feature to the OS they would have been touting it anyway.

remember. you're talking about a pre-release device. who knows what applications will be included in the final production devices.

for now, take everything you see with a grain of salt.

The emulator is also missing almost everything. All it has is settings and a contacts app. I'd definitely guess that something is afoot.

That's how the simulator has always been. You don't need the vast majority of apps to test your own app.

If there are going to be any super-secret additions, it'll be in a version of the OS beyond 3.2.

Ah, I stand corrected. I didn't actually pay the $$ to get the developers license, and this was what a friend of mine told me when I asked him about the capabilities the other day.

Its a bit odd that Mobile Safari wasn't included though-don't some apps need to test against that?

@kjk no. they need to test against webkit which is in the OS, not safari.

as for "super secret addons" if they are in the form of applications they could certainly exist and be released with 3.2. nothing is final until 3.2 is officially released (which it isn't) and ipads are in people's hands (which it isn't). even then, additions are only an upgrade away!
