Android spanks Apple iOS in sales as fanbois hold out for iPhone 5

I had hoped that HTC will bring flyer 2 with better specification and pen to tablet interface. I would have bought a flyer with a bit less weight and better screen resolution. Somehow they seem to have dropped out of the tablet market. Even though X is a good product, I am not sure how it will compete against multiple android devices from android devices from Samsung.

Many folks might have forgotten the Carrier IQ incident but I don't think they have forgotten how they felt having HTC spy on them. I don't think they ever recovered after that incident.

the other is this, You can only get the HTC one x at 3 carriers in north america, where the GS3 has 5 carriers in the us, and 5 carriers in canada alowing just about anyone in north america to have a good superphone even if its not the best. if HTC allowed unfettered access to thier superphone on every carriers they could move more phones,

the fun thing is that Apple does not seem to be reaching new consumers: it's the very same loyal fanboybase that's been upgrading ever since iPhone 1.

Went from 18 to 20 to 17 the year before. Then doubled.

One year ago Samsung sold about 56 million feature phones. Last quarter it sold about 43 million. The smartphone portion increased from 20 million to 50 million. At the same time, Apple has maintained a growth in its smartphone business of about 100% on a yearly basis. I expect that to continue into 2013 as well. Therefore it’s possible that Samsung could sell 290 million smartphones in the next 12 months and Apple could sell about 200 million in the same time frame.

. What is more likely to be a problem for Samsung is ZTE and Huawei. They are on the same trajectory that Samsung was on 10 years ago. For Samsung to beat them in the future it will need to develop products that nobody can copy.

I am an old China hand and they will have a hard time convincing me that Chinese companies will ever be able to compete at the top end of the international market with Chinese designed products. And with Chinese labor costs going through the roof the days of simply copying others will be over very soon, anyway.

Besides, in the phone and tablet markets copying doesn't really matter that much to someone like Samsung. By the time the copy product comes out they have already moved on to the next version.

It could be. Certainly the growth in availability and range of high quality Android phones, the competition between different manufacturers, and the greater maturity of the platform and app store, is going to have an affect on iPhone sales.

I think there is also some quarter-to-quarter transference going on.

2011Q4 (July-Sep) was down, then 2012Q1 (Oct-Dec) significantly up. It seems reasonable to say that this was down to people waiting for the iPhone 4S release, which was mid-Oct 2011.
The 2012Q3 (Apr-Jun) was down, and Apple are saying that is because people are waiting for the iPhone 5.
If that is the case, then once the iPhone 5 is released, there should be a huge spike up again.
