Why B&N ePub File Size So Huge?

Do you guys know why B&N ePub files are so huge? I just download their free book, Altar of Eden. I mean that book is 2167kb (2.1 MB) and it's only 350 pages in small font.

Lilly,

It may have to do with the book's formatting or graphics. The largest book on my Kindle last year was A Tramp Abroad by Mark Twain. A Tramp Abroad is a mobi file that contains quite a few graphics. It weighed in at a whopping 12.0 MB!

Even a small number of illustrations can significantly increase the size of an eBook. Add 50 illustrations, even moderately sized, as many of my Dickens books have, and the file size will probably exceed 10MB.

I was going to suggest an embedded font, but in this case it is images. There are two copies of the cover image, taking a total of 1.6 MB between them.
