Drag and Drop via Windows Explorer
Is it possible to use the Sony Pocket Reader without any software at all, if you just want to use free, unprotected books from the net?
Is it possible to plug the reader in via USB, and use Windows Explorer to drag and drop files (say from Guttenberg or Manbooks) directly to the reader? If this is possible, what´s the best format to use? Is it possible to do this type of transfer on multiple PC´s (ie a series of different internet cafés whilst travelling?) , or is the Sony Reader locked to one pc (the first you use) or anything like that? If so this would be great whilst travelling at internet cafés, just to be able to downlaod and drag and drop free books rather than needing to instal software. Thanks so much , James |

You can drag and drop files . Raw Gutenberg files are not a good idea. They have hard returns in the paragraphs. The only device that can read Gutenberg formated "vanilla plain text" Gutenberg files is PocketBook. There are, however many places where you can download the files formated for the Reader. One such place is this site. Just have a look at the top of this page. There is E-Books link. You can read txt, rtf, epub, [some] pdf files and also proprietary Sony format BBeB with lrf and lrx extension. |

You can drag/drop DRM free eBooks onto the 300 no problem. But you then cannot use Collections. If you want collections, use either Reader Library or Calibre to manage your content and then you can have Collections.

Thanks so much, i really really want a good e-reader thats small for travelling, but i was worried from my past with Sony if it might force you into using software, which is not ideal on the road

Are you taking a netbook or a laptop with you? If so, just install Reader Library.
