Question eBookwise reader

Hi,
I use an eBookwise reader but found their selection of books a bit limited. So after a bit of research, I bought an ePUB format book from Kobo and downloaded it in that format to my MAC laptop running OS 10.6. I thought from what I read that I could use Calibre to reformat it to another format and upload it to eBookwise library for downloading to my reader, but NO LUCK so far. Any tips anyone?
Thanks
Janet

Hi and welcome to MR, Janet. I can't help you with the techie stuff. I'm notoriously untechie. But I'm sure someone will come along to help you. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on this site. Enjoy.

Is it a DRM'd book (if it's from a major publisher it likely is)? Calibre can't convert a book with DRM, the DRM would need to be removed first.

Hi Janet, does Calibre provide any error messages ?

Post your question in the Calibre Forum ... it may be something as simple as a tweek on the settings .... unless it is a DRM'd file (in that case solutions are still possible)

Hi,
That's a good question. It's one of the newer Dan Brown books, Angels and Demons, which has as a primary publisher, Simion and Shuster. Is the eBook publisher always still the same? How can you find out from the Kobo website if there are DRM strings attached?
Thanks for the tip.

Hi GeoffC,
It just says that it is unable to convert the ePUB file to whatever output I choose. When I clicked on the details button, I can see that much of the attempted "translation" is resulting in mostly gibberish symbols. It does not give any more of an explanation, as much as I have looked, but I can look more closely and see if there are other clues. Are most or all of the books sold on the Kobo website covered by DRM? Is there a way to tell that in the copy I have downloaded? Kobo at their website does indicate that you should be able to move their downloaded books to other reading devices, like smart phones, etc.
Thanks
Janet

Anything Simon & Schuster puts out will have DRM on it.

I don't know how to tell on their site if a book has DRM or not. I thought they all were DRM'd, but someone posted a few weeks ago that they'd gotten DRM free stuff there. Anything from a big pub (S&S, Harper, Random House, Penguin, Macmillan, Hatchette) will for sure have DRM.

They can be read on dedicated devices that support Adobe DRM; Sony, Kobo, Astak, Bebook, Bookeen, Nook... Or on devices that Kobo has an app for Android, iPhone/Touch, iPad, Blackberry, Palm Pre...
