I don't know if this was posted before, but I just found the story on the news tonight. He was an inspiration and one of my favorite authors growing up. Quote:

Sad news. I loved Mossflower and Redwall as a kid, and a few more after that before I grew out of them. Never realised it had grown to such a huge series, or that there was an opera and tv series!

I hadn't a clue he was even that old. Well, at least his family will be well taken care of. At least for the next 70 years anyway...

He was one of my favorite authors as a kid, and I kept up with the Redwall series to this day. Reading the final novel this year will be bittersweet.
It's sad to see another great author pass away. |

This is sad news.
I met him when he came to my school to discuss his books. I was 10 at the time, and generally only interested in reading Goosebumps, Fear Street, etc. After meeting him & listening to him read some pages from Mattimeo I decided to give one of his books a try. Since then he's always been one of my favorite authors. Even now, as an adult, I still enjoy reading the Redwall series. He was a wonderful writer and storyteller. |

It is sad, particularly since at age 71, he might have had a few books left in him... Still, having a series of more than 20 books that will probably remain in print for decades to come is not a bad legacy to leave behind. Here is hoping it remains in public memory until it enters the public domain.
