Browning, Robert: The Pied Piper of Hamelin (Illus). v1. 12 June 2015
The Pied Piper of Hamelin
by Robert Browning (1812–1889) Illustrated by Kate Greenaway (1846–1901) First Published 1842. The text and illustrations of this book are in the public domain worldwide because the creators died more than 100 years ago. Robert Browning, one of the foremost Victorian poets, is noted for such poems as “Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came,” “How They Brought the Good News from Ghent to Aix,” “My Last Duchess,” and the work presented here, “The Pied Piper of Hamelin.” His poetry for adults is not easy, but this children's poem is delightful fun, with wonderful jingly rhymes and phrases. Kate Greenaway’s illustrations in soft pastels create an idyllic backdrop for the verse. ------------------------- Text was obtained from wikisource.org; images were obtained from archive.org. I formatted punctuation, diacritics, and italics; manually cleaned and enhanced images. This one is fun even for folks who don't care much for poetry. Give it a try. .
