Have you ever cried at a book or movie?

Have you ever cried actual tears at a movie or book? I haven't at a book but I have had actual tears at Marley and Me and Grave of the Fireflies

i'd say anyone who *doesn't* cry at "grave of the fireflies" is probably not actually human.

but then underneath my cynical façade i am a big baby, so what do i know.

(so, that would be "yes" to both your questions. )

I too freely shed tears (in the dark of course) at movies. I became quite sniffly the first time I watched "Chicken Little" during the scene when his dad didn't believe him ("I wound you, you wound me, ...).

i try to avoid watching anything that will make me cry with other people, so i don't embarass myself.

i've had a few touch-and-go moments reading in the métro though, when i've come across an unexpectedly poignant passage...

The "manly tear" is just the precursor; it's swiftly followed by me staggering out of the room before the floodgates open in front of everyone else.

I've got 'Grave of the Fireflies' but haven't been able to bring myself to watch it - is it really harrowing?

The Notebook- just love the ending how their love is so strong for one another that they can't bear to be apart in life, or in death

Have never heard of Grave of Fireflies :/

I cried only when I read the last Harry Potter book. I was a blubbering mess. Even better, I was sitting on a beach in Greece drinking a Bacardi Breezer while sobbing my eyes out.

I've cried watching lots of movies. Most recent was Dead Poet's Society. That one always gets me.

I've cried during plenty of movies, but the only one that guarantees that I will cry every time is Dear Zachary. I don't think I've cried during a book, but I got misty-eyed a couple of times in the His Dark Materials trilogy from Phillip Pullman.

I've been strong enough to watch it [Grave of the Fireflies] more than once, the way the scene is orchestrated, even though you know it's coming, somehow you still cry!

As I get older I find myself crying more often and easier.

(I'd ask pshrynk about it but I've spent the $300 on chocolate and ebooks.)

Now I find myself crying, not only during movies and whilst reading books, but while watching commercials on TV and reading posts here at MR.

I've cried at many movies. even ones you're supposed to cry at! quite a few books as well. I figure that and laughter is a humanity check
