I don't have a ritual. Sometimes if I'm really enjoying a book and don't want it to end I might slow down towards the end to make it last longer or sometimes I'll want to get to the end, if I'm anxious to get to the resolution of the story and then I'll read quicker.
When it's finished I pop over to good reads and update the status and then add it to the books read list here. Depending on the book and how much I've enjoyed reading it, I might reflect on the book and head over to amazon to read other people's opinions on the book. Depending on how much I enjoyed the book, I'll either start the next book straight away or leave a few hours for reflection(see above) and to debrief lol bad then start the next book. When I finish a book, I mark it as finished over on Goodreads and add the next book I'm going to read. Then I'll usually take a break for awhile before I start the next book. The other day when I finished a book, I watched a hockey game to rest the brain for awhile, then I was ready to start another book.

No ritual. I just try to figure out what to read next.

I read the author's notes, if any, but that's about it. I rarely finish a book in bed right before sleeping, though, because I prefer to start a new novel right away and let it suck me in.

I never thought of it has a ritual...but when I finish a book I bookmark the copyright page (usually at the end and has the book title & author). Since the bookmarks on my Sony are dated, when I get a chance, I log the book as read and date it in Calibre. Then delete it from my ereader.
I cannot take my ereader to work so only read at home and maybe at an appointment...so ending anytime is fine by me. I'll just do my bookmark and go onto the next book. |

dunno if it counts as a "ritual", but when I finish a book, I usually chat to my wife and/or kids about it before moving onto the next book.
I chat to a friend online as well about books in general. We often try to read the same books or series of books so we can chat about them as we read them. |

If I am really into a book, as I am reading I will bookmark favorite pages; after I finish I may go back and reread some of those sections.

Sadly, I can no longer through a book I hate across the room because it will probably crack the screen. Maybe if they start coming out ereaders with plastic substrates like people were predicting a year or two ago, I'll be able to do it again.

No ritual when I'm finishing a book.
But when I'm starting a book I try to get comfortable on the living room chair and have a fresh mug of tea at hand. |
