iBooks only shows 1st page in each chapter
epub format. anyone had this problem before? epub loads fine in BlueFire app and get's a clean bill with FlightCrew.

I've seen this a couple of times in books I've found on the web. In each case, converting the book to Mobi, then back to ePub using Calibre, solved the problem.

I wonder whether converting ePub to ePub would be simpler.

Yes, it would be simpler. But when I tried it, it didn't solve the problem. The file was new and drastically changed in size but the one page per chapter problem persisted.
