If this goes OK, though, it'll end up being better for the customer, in that their books will be in a more open (well, "Alf-able", anyway) ecosystem.

I found myself purchasing 20 books last year for £1 each all to get back £20 in Tesco clubcard points. the only form I could read my books in was on tablet so yes unfortunate that they are closing but I am happy they will be ported to Kobo so I can read them on my beloved reader as they did not offer the option of a downloadable book at all

My only question is whether the transfer to Kobo can be to an existing account. I wouldn't want to have two accounts.

Yes, it does look like a good solution. And isn't it nice to know that you are a "beloved customer".

KOBO closed the deal on the transition.
Books will transfer, credits will not; use them or lose 'em. http://blog.the-ebook-reader.com/201...omer-accounts/ Apparently 100k accounts will be transfering. BLINKBOX BOOKS transition FAQ: Take note: https://support.blinkboxbooks.com/hc...blinkbox-Books Quote:

Received my transfer email today. Transfer as gone smoothly. I originally only had 1 book with blink box which was a freebie. However, as I had a Hudl2 there was a £15 credit offer, which I wasn't going to use, while the books were locked to the app.
But after the conformation of the transfer to Kobo I decided to go for it & used it on my 3 email addresses & got £45 worth of free books. Which are now safely in Calibre & alfed. So far I've actually faired well with transfers to Kobo from other bookstores. |

I transferred my one book successfully to my Kobo account, where it appeared as an Adobe DRMed epub. So that's nice
Interesting too that it's not in Kobo's catalog so even though it's in my library it can't be purchased from Kobo. Which is also a good sign. I would have bought more from Blinkbox if I'd known I was going to be able to free them. Well maybe. They weren't as cheap as Amazon generally. |
