Ich habe die letzten Tage die Freizeit benutzt um im Garten aufzuräumen, da war ich Abends zu müde zum langen Lesen und heute kommt Besuch.

Ich nehme mir gerade eine kurze Auszeit, ich hatte ja im Urlaub mit dem Hamilton angefangen, und da der mit wesentlich besser gefällt werde ich ihn auch erstmal fertiglesen.

Irgendwie werde ich mit Sagan nicht so recht warm

Das Buch habe ich nun vor über einer Woche fertig gelesen und bin mir immer noch nicht ganz sicher, wie ich dazu stehe. Es gab interessante Denkansätze und Einblicke in die Wissenschaft, aber für einen (für mich) guten Roman fehlte mir irgendetwas. Ich glaube, ich vermisste die Gefühle. Ja, es gab eine Romanze, es gab auch Freundschaften und Eifersüchteleien, aber das waren eher Beschreibungen, die eigentlichen Emotionen wurden für mich nicht spürbar. Und nein, ich spreche nicht davon, dass ich mir eine Herz-Schmerz-Schmonzette gewünscht hätte, aber etwas weniger steril hätte es für mich schon sein können.

So sehe ich das auch. Immerhin lese ich es bereits zum 3. Mal und weiß, wo die Schwächen liegen, nichtsdestotrotz gefällt es mir nach wie vor sehr gut. Das heißt aber auch, dass ich durchaus einen zweiten Roman von Sagan lesen würde, wenn er noch einen geschrieben hätte. Schon aus purer Neugier, worum es darin gehen würde.

Diesmal hilft aber auch die exzellente Lesung. Von der Sprecherin hatte ich bisher noch nie was gehört, aber sie ist absolut perfekt für das Buch und bringt sogar an manchen Stellen die Emotionen rüber, die unterschwellig durchaus vorhanden sind. Dieses Hörbuch werde ich sicher irgendwann wieder hören.

Manchmal habe ich das Gefühl das dieses Buch mehrere Autoren (oder Lektoren) hatte. Ich finde es gibt drei unterschiedliche Stile wenn er

a) etwas im wissenschaftliche Kontex beschreibt, das ist immer informativ, sachlich und interessant. Dazu gehören auch Diskussionen zwischen den Protagonisten um Sachthemen.

b) globale Ereignisse beschreibt wie Abrüstung, der Bau der Maschinen usw. Das erinnert mich sehr an dern Stil von Jules Verne und macht sehr viel Spass zu lesen.

c) persönliche und emotionale Szenen. Das hakt ofzt, ist manchmal oberflächlich und wird immer von diesen Besserwissereien unterbrochen. Diese Teile sind defiitiv die Schwächsten und verderben mir so ein bisschen den Spass.

Interessant. Ich hatte das bisher immer der Tatsache zugeschrieben, dass Sagan in erster Linie Wissenschaftler war und sich vor allem darauf verstanden hat, populärwissenschaftliche Bücher zu schreiben. Dass man das kann, impliziert indessen nicht automatisch, dass man auch gute Romane schreibt. Die spielen irgendwie auf einer ganz anderen Ebene. Es war sein erster Versuch, das halte ich ihm zugute. Ich habe schon wesentlich schlechtere Erstlinge von reinen Romanautoren gelesen.

Übrigens habe ich auch bei anderen Autoren, die als Wissenschaftler begonnen haben, den Eindruck, dass die menschliche Ebene im Roman irgendwie "un-emotionaler" ausfällt, wenn ihr mir diese Wortschöpfung verzeiht. Zum Bespiel bei Stephen Baxter, um nur einen zu nennen.

Ich bin übrigens inzwischen bei Teil 3 angelangt, und

Ich bin gerade fertig geworden und habe eben auf dem Nexus gelesen, was troll05 und Marrella geschrieben haben. Also raus aus dem Bett und wieder angezogen, damit ich einen vernünftigen Kommentar auf dem Netbook abgeben kann.

Das ist auch so, wenn du zum Nachwort kommst. Es scheint so als hätten da einige stark eingegriffen. Das erklärt mir jetzt auch einiges.

lila55 hat ja auch zu dem Punkt c) sehr treffend formuliert:

Die Romanze finde ich in der Geschichte auch den schwächsten Teil, allerdings finde ich, dass das Buch in dieser Hinsicht gegen Ende besser wird. Gerade frisch am Ende angekommen wünschte ich mir fast Sagan das Manuskript zur Überarbeitung des 1. Drittels nochmal vorzulegen.

Insgesamt hat mir das Buch aber sehr gut gefallen und ich hätte tatsächlich gerne noch etwas mehr von Sagan gelesen. Mit der Zeit hätte sich sein Stil bestimmt noch entwickelt und wie Marrella schon schreibt, kenne ich auch einige SF-Autoren mit hervorragenden Ideen, aber mit Schwächen bei der literarischen Umsetzung.

Etwas enttäuschend ist für mich, wie beim Film die Phase nach dem Trip, warum hat Sagan diese Wendung der Geschichte gewählt. Darüber muss ich noch etwas nachdenken.

Ich werde jetzt erstmal noch etwas in euren Kommentaren lesen.

Wir hatten eine Phase in der die UNO eine große Rolle spielte, alles zielte auf eine Annäherung der Länder ab. Davon sind wir wieder weit entfernt, wir sehen wieder stärker die Unterschiede und nicht die verbindenden Elemente. Das können aber sich andere besser formulieren als ich.

Ich kann mich auch gut an die Zeit erinnern zu der der Film lief. Da hatte man wirklich die Hoffnung bald auf Zeichen ausserirdischer Zivilisationen oder zumindest anderer wie auch immer belebter Welten zu treffen. Bis auf den Fund einiger "organischer" Verbindungen außerhalb der Erde, ist davon auch leider nicht viel übrig geblieben. Als jemand, der sich schon immer mit diesen Fragen beschäftigt hat, bin ich etwas desillusioniert.

Der Beweis eines Gottes durch die Zahl Pi (Nullen und Einsen ergeben ein Kreisbild) fand ich dann doch etwas merkwürdig, zumal die Ausserirdischen es selbst nicht begriffen hatten, aber ein kleiner Computer auf der Erde errechnet dann diese Auffälligkeit oder habe ich da was falsch verstanden?

Genauso sehe ich das auch. Sagan war Rationalist und Wissenschaftler. Ich denke, er brauchte empirische Beweise, um etwas als real und existent anzuerkennen. Nun lässt es sich nicht beweisen, dass Gott existiert, aber genauso wenig lässt sich beweisen, dass Gott nicht existiert. Also überlässt er es dem Leser, seine eigenen Schlüsse zu ziehen. Das entspricht seinem Charakter, und deshalb glaube ich, am Schluss des Buches gibt es mit voller Absicht keine eindeutige Erklärung für die Ereignisse. Es soll ein Denkanstoß sein.

Klar, dass er damit einige Leser nicht nur enttäuscht, sondern sogar verärgert, aber es passte voll und ganz zu seiner Philosophie.

Ich bin am Anfang des dritten Teils, habe gerade viel zu tun und...
... na ja, ist zwar eigentlich das bisher beste Buch was wir hatten, aber irgendwie...
... 30 Seiten und ich habe die Nase wieder voll für den Abend...
...mal schauen ob ich es noch fertig kriege

Das Ganze stellt sich für mich so dar, dass Sagan bewusst offen lassen wollte, ob der Trip wirklich stattgefunden hat. Da schließt sich bei ihm wieder der Kreis zum Glauben (Gespräch zwischen Joss und Ellie am Ende).

Der Beweis eines Gottes durch die Zahl Pi (Nullen und Einsen ergeben ein Kreisbild) fand ich dann doch etwas merkwürdig, zumal die Ausserirdischen es selbst nicht begriffen hatten, aber ein kleiner Computer auf der Erde errechnet dann diese Auffälligkeit oder habe ich da was falsch verstanden?
Wie unterschiedlich man doch das Ende einordnet. Für mich

las es sich so, dass die Reise stattgefunden hat... und Sagan lediglich offen ließ, wie das vonstatten ging. Man baut nach Plänen und mit Materialien, die man nicht kennt ein "Raumschiff" und trotz der nachweislichen Spuren kann "man" (d.h. die Wissenschaft) weder die räumliche noch die zeitliche Reise erklären.

Ich stimme Marrella zu, dass das Ende bewusst so gewählt ist, unterschiedliche Interpretationen möglich und gewollt sind.

So ähnlich sehe ich das auch. Insbesondere da die doch recht konfusen Erklärungsversuche der "Gegenseite" auch dann noch sehr bei den Haaren herbeigezogen wirken, wenn man Ellies persönliches Erleben, an dem wir ja teilhaben konnten, außer Acht lässt. Aber ja, das Ende offen zu lassen und keine definitive Antwort zu geben entspricht sicherlich der Absicht und Grundeinstellung Sagans.

Und um die Frage von weiter oben zu beantworten - ja, ich denke schon, dass ich einen weiteren Roman von Sagan lesen würde. Trotz der Mängel als reine Erzählung fand ich das Buch insgesamt unterhaltsam und zum Nachdenken anregend.
