Blood Games, which appears to be 3rd in the Garreth Mikaelian Mystery series by Lee Killough, is a straightforward police procedural distinguished by having a vampire sleuth.

Apparently, this may not be one of the better books in the series, and you may wish to start with one of her other previous KDP-freebies first if you picked them up earlier.

Anthony Neil Smith and Victor Gischler, both featured yesterday, offer a jointly-written PI novella which they say was originally published in 2001: To the Devil, My Regards.

Berkley-published cozy writer Michele Scott, under her pen name A.K. Alexander, offers the thriller: Covert Reich.

Another Berkley-published cozy writer, Annette Blair, offers a Regency romance: Undeniable Rogue.

Formerly Zebra/Kensington-published Doreen Owens Malek offers another Roman historical romance: The Raven and the Rose. Yesterday's Roman Britain one, The Lion and the Lark, is still free in case you missed it and it's part of some series.

AmazonEncore self-publishing success Karen McQuestion offers a YA short story: Turning a Corner.

A couple of borderline newbie-ish maybe self-pubs that looked kind of interesting and hopefully should be decent:

Mark Edward Hall, who had a hardcover chapbook version of this small-press published in 2003, offers his period Egyptian archaeological thriller novella: The Breath of Life.

Pearson Moore, who writes a bunch of unofficial TV show tie-in guides and apparently has some sort of internet following and is a fellow Canadian besides, offers a Canadian historical novel: Cartier's Ring. Also his Game of Thrones: Season One Essays, which may interest G.R.R. Martin fans.

Pamela Beason, whose blurb says she's a Daphne Du Maurier award winner (which is quite possible, since the RWA Mystery writers site says that unpublished works are eligible for nomination, though I didn't feel like trawling through their PDF files to see if she really won or not) and says she's got a book upcoming from Berkley, offers a romantic suspense which seems to have hilariously gotten the cover from her animal protection thriller: Shaken. She also offers a household tips book: SAVE Your Money, Your Sanity, and Our Planet; 5 Lessons and 125 Tips for a Thrifty Lifestyle.

Well, that's just about everyone whose names I recognized, or who had a semi-interesting book and some decent-looking credentials on the author page.

Just as well he's offering for free, then. The morbidly curious can evaluate his writing without having to shell out any money (though they still may lose out on time and broken brain cells).

Mind you, judging from the blurb alone, the author has no understanding whatsover of basic non-pseudo-science (i.e. plate tectonics and the timescale in which geological processes operate) and is just making it up as he goes along.

Or maybe copying the crackpots, because generally when you're cribbing from a distinguished panel of self-proclaimed "experts" including Velikovsky, it's a really bad sign.

That sort of thing usually has consequences from the less gullible and better educated readers.

Though I suspect the fights between the creationists and less-fundamentally-inclined in the review comments will indeed make for better reading than the actual story.
