K3 web browser, international use -- poll
Hi! There are mixed reports about K3 web browser in different countries with different K3 versions, so it's still not clear which version is working where.
I think it would be useful to have a short summary of this information in one thread, so that people who are considering to buy a K3 knew in advance what to expect. For me, the free global 3G web browsing was one of the major selling points of the Kindle, so it's very disappointing to find out that it isn't actually that global. Please post your experience, just a short summary: which country did you order it in, which version (US/International), and list the countries where the browser works and doesn't. I'll start, even though my case is very trivial -- international users and travellers, please join in! Bought: ordered to US address, US K3 version Registered in: US Web browser works in: US Doesn't work in: haven't tried elsewhere yet |

Mine was bought in the UK. I've so far tried web browsing in the UK, Netherlands, Belgium, and France. It works in all of those countries with no restrictions.

My mother's Kindle 2 suddenly could go online a few week (months?) ago, but is unable to do so now for some reason. She's in Belgium.

Mine was bought in the Netherlands through amazon.com.
When it was on 3G tonight, at home, I couldn't browse anything, even not amazon.com or wikipedia. It said: ' sorry, the browser cannot access this website/ due to local restrictions web browsing is not available for all countries. At the same time I could ' Shop in Kindle store' and asked for a sample, that got delivered right away. Afterwards, when I reconnected the Wifi again(why was it disconnected anyway, I wonder); obviously I could browse everything. As I bought Kindle 3G for a reason, as I plan to do some travelling. I'll ask customersupport what is this all about. |

Can't these answers be found by a potential buyer on their home page of Amazon.com?

Does it have information about international roaming? It tells you whether you'll have full internet access in your own country but not - that I can see - what other countries you'll have it in.

How would a poll allow me to say "I live in the UK and I can get internet access in France and Belgium but not Germany"? Bit complicated for a poll, isn't it?

Hi everybody ! Started reading the forums since I got my K3 (first reader), and thought it was time to register and contribute.
The info page at amazon.com is'nt very clear. Got the international US version shipped to France, and 3G was only for the store and Wikipedia. I was a bit disappointed, especially since it's the US wikipedia (which was not specified. I could cope with restricted web, but, at least, give me full wikipedia ! Not that reading in english is a problem -- there would have been little point in buying the kindle in that case -- but you don't get the same coverage on local geography, culture and history). However, you still get the option to change your country in the "manage my kindle" page to USA... which gives you full 3G access, besides the other better-known effects on the store. So it really doesn't depend on the device, just the account (no more "due to local restrictions...") I am curious about the projects of Amazon, will they lift these restrictions ? |

If the op wanted to start a real poll, perhaps they could rephrase the questions to be more easily answered. Its was just a thought......jeez! |

No, if you select information about your country, it will tell you whether you get full or restricted internet browsing there.

I live in France and ordered my Kindle from the US Amazon website. In the 'Manage Your Kindle' settings page, you can select the country associated with your Kindle. When it arrived, my country was set to France. At this point, I was unable to connect to the Internet via 3G (not even for e.g. Wikipedia).
A week later, I changed the country to 'United States' and suddenly had full Internet access. I have since changed the country to 'United Kingdom' and can still surf the Web without apparent restrictions. |
