Can't open epub

I bought a book from Kobo, downloaded it to the same pplace I do everything else. When I try to click on the acsm file an error message pops up in the Sony library:

An error has occurred while accessing the eBook store Digital Rights Management system

I bought 2 other books and they were fine. Tried re-downloading it, nada. Is this Sony, or Kobo?

Could be Adobe as well. But give it time. I had one night where downloading eBooks from Overdrive via the library were almost a total disaster. The next day, everything was back to normal.

If you want, go to Kobo, change your password, PM me the account info, I'll try to download the ePub and if I am successful, I can strip the DRM and email it to you. Then you can go back to Kobo and reset your password.

Check the epub file name. Make sure it does not contain characters like "[" etc. Rename the file to something simple. I had this problem once and after I changed the file name it opened normally.

emonti8384, I am sorry that you are having problems. Here are some suggestions.

First, did you try purchasing a Sony book just to make sure something isn't messed up in your Sony software? You could go to the category Bargain-Priced and pick a free book for your test. Then you know that Sony works.

Second, do you have Adobe Digital Editions installed? If so, did you try to right-click on the acsm file and select Open With > Adobe Digital Editions. If that works, then you know it might be the Sony software. If that does not work, then you know there is something else going on.

Third, did you call Kobo Customer Support or even Sony Customer Support? Maybe they have seen this error before?

Lastly, this suggestion might seem odd but if you think it is a Kobo Store problem, then maybe you could post a question in the Kobo forum. Perhaps someone on that board is more likely to have seen a similar error message before?

Just some thoughts... Good luck!

You know how you can't purchase more than one ebook at a time? Well I'd bought 2 other ebooks at the same time (I had to check them out seperately-stupid cart system thingy!) and the first one I tried to open it did the same thing but when I clicked on it again it opened just fine. No problem with the 2nd ebook and then third is not loving me at all! I do have ADE installed, maybe I will try and do that-at work till 3pm. I emailed Kobo and Sony to ask what was going on, waiting on a reply. I just want to read!

If 2 of the 3 work, then maybe it is just a bad book and something is wrong at Kobo. That does happen on occasion. I hope that they respond to you soon so you can keep on reading.

Just got home and tried it again-nothing. So I did the right click-open with ADE-left click...and it's there. I tried to click on the file again and the error message came up again. Whatever Sony library, you big jerk, pick on someone else!! Hrumph.
