If you like books in the style of the Belgariad, Shannara, or Dragonlance, you'd probably like The Riftwar Saga by Raymond Feist (http://www.goodreads.com/series/40473-the-riftwar-saga). Not very new I'm afraid. I think this style of fantasy isn't very much in fashion right at the moment.

Ahhhhh.....but these are the ones I like, although I've never read any Dragonlance books (or anything, for that matter to do with D&D).

Well, they did write them to go down easy back in the day Mostly unchallenging prose and nice manageable length -- not doorstops like today.

Oh, speaking of doorstops and sagas, I'm surprised I haven't seen the Wheel of Time mentioned here yet (or did I blank it out?)
