Well, I'm getting there. Is it possible to pin the left column items to the top, as opposed to centered? Also, how does the code look?

Yes, there is a way, see here: http://www.w3schools.com/tags/att_td_valign.asp
Also, using a table is likely to be quite unpredictable on real devices. The preview in the editor shows how a browser would render the code, but does NOT show interesting device quirks. |
