CSS3 is still a bit of a working draft. Changes don't mean progress per se in this. For all we know, no changes were made because nobody asked for any in the paged media section. Not that W3C is ignoring it.

The epub format is made to fit on all kinds of formats and to do scaling in different angels.
So it should work for the ipad as well (I suppose apple won't support epub anyway but that's another story). |

The fact is that if you want any layout control (beyond forced single column) for books viewed in landscape mode the oeb spec doesn't offer any help right now. You can use the Adobe page-template extension, which might be useful to test layouts in ADE, but be prepared to have to alter it to fit in with whatever extension Apple might introduce. If Apple is planning on getting magazines and newspapers to distribute through them they'll have to offer some sort of layout control.
