CONNECT - alternative payment methods?
Many folks don't have a credit card they can use to make personal online purchases. Others simply don't like to share their credit card online. And then there are hopeless non-US folks who cannot use their credit card to make online purchases at Sony CONNECT. So I wonder... why is Sony not offering alternatives payment methods?
My favorite payment method would be PayPal, but that's just me. What method would you prefer? |

I'd also love an alternate payment method. Paypal seems the most obvious. I live in the UK so i am hoping to get someone to purchase gift certificates for me

I thought it was possible to use non-US addresses with a credit card.

It's not terribly convenient, but if you look into some of the prepaid debit cards available in the US and some of the options that people use for online Casino gambling -- there are prepaid debit cards out there to which you can assign any "billing" address you wish (Sony Headquarters anyone?).
Many of which can be loaded via debit from foreign bank accounts, some of which can be loaded from PayPal for a fee. Might be more convenient to arrange to have a US person pick up one of these at the store and drop it in the mail, rather than constantly exchanging money/gift-codes. I've gotta go through my old wallet and find the one that I liked the most and used when I lived abroad and needed a US billing address for access to things. |

*bump*
Aaargh! I lied about living in the US just to get the device registered and they fell for it, but now Connect is asking me for a US address for my credit card. So I take it non-US cards simply cannot be used? And what is this $50 store credit that people are talking about? Thanks for shedding any light on this. |

Once you have your PC and your Reader registered the $50 shows up in your account.

It hasn't on mine. I'm a UK user, I've registered my PCs and reader but if you try to buy anything it comes back with "No credit card registered" and there's no credit in the account. |

Try to click "redeem a gift certificate" and then cancel. I think that did the trick for me. Otherwise, try the reset routine described in another thread.

I'll give it a shot, although I don't see the "application data" folder mentioned in that thread. Already tried the redeem gift cert route on the off chance there would be something there.
