Converting PPT using Mobipocket Reader

Hi all,

I got a kindle 2 a few days ago and I'm really enjoying it. I have been using the Mobipocket Reader for my conversion needs, and I noticed that it does a really good job of converting PPT files, but when I load the file onto my kindle, the pictures aren't there (though in the Mobipocket Reader, the pics are all there, and it looks pretty much just like the powerpoint file).

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks!

Will

Open the PPT files in OpenOffice 3 and export them as Adobe PDF files one-by-one (there is a button directly on OO's toolbar). Then drag-and-drop the resulting PDF files onto Mobipocket Reader.

Good Luck,

The pictures show up, but the formatting gets completely garbled. The existing PPT conversion in Mobipocket Reader makes perfect conversions when viewed on the computer, but they become picture-less on the Kindle... I guess there's no perfect solution?

Thanks,

Would you like me to try? Send me a copy of the PPT and Mobipocket ebook I want to figure this out. I sent a private message to you with my email.

He sent it to me. My response:

Quote:
I think the root problem is that this is a badly made PPT. It appears that none of the problem slides use a layout. Also, the pictures that don't transfer are scanned images from textbooks and reference manuals. They are all in the 1200 by 1600 range.

I do have a workaround. Do you have OpenOffice? If you open the PPT in OpenOffice, you can export it as HTML with an image for each slide. I tried sending the collected HTML files and images to my Kindle. If I get it, I'll send it to you.

There are actually a lot of export options in OpenOffice. If you go this route, you should experiment and see which one is best for you.
P.S. If you don' have OpenOffice, get it. It's free.

Does this imply that the Kindle has a maximum image size it will display? In a perfect world, if the images display in Desktop MobiPocket Reader they should also display on the Kindle.

When I tried his converted file with my copy of MobiDesktop, I couldn't see the large images (same as on the Kindle).

A quick way to PDF

Maybe a Print2PDF-Tool is a quicker way to convert any document you need to PDF...

This one is good: http://www.primopdf.com/primopdf_free_idx.htm

As a printer driver one can use it out of every app (which can print).
