If that's the case, then I have to get in the idiot line as well. I didn't say thank you for a while because I had no idea what all that Karma stuff even was. I thought it was some little elf that jumped about showering people with pixie dust. When I figured out it came from others here, I wasn't sure how to say thank you. I had to figure out the visitor message thingy and I almost sent a message to myself before I realized what I was doing.

Bottom line, don't be too hard on yourself because many of the rest of us will have to raise our hands and say "I too am an idiot." You don't want that. It could start a thread where we all start admitting our mistakes.

I just like to click on the karma giver's name, which is right there in the "Posted By" column, and leave a nice personal thank you on their Visitor Messages.

Almost?
I frequently send visitor messages to myself. I'm sure it's a bug in the system. Then I have to go in and copy the contents and go and paste in the correct visitors message, then go back and change the original message with something like "Doh, I posted to myself agaaaiiiiiiin!!!"

Perhaps instead of stating you posted to yourself again, you could change it to kind of a sticky note reminder like: "This note is so I don't forget to... uhmmm... turn the light off in the kitchen! Yeah, that's it!"

i think everyone has done that at least once.

little tip when replying a visitor message, if you click on "view conversation" it will show you all the messages between you and that person in order, and automatically send the reply to their page. it's useful for seeing the history of the comments and avoids those pesky accidental self-postings.

Thank you Zelda. Now I feel like an idiot because I didn't even notice that clickable line *above* the message area, only the "view conversation" that was below. Maybe now I'll post less often to myself. Maybe.

I send myself messages like that at least once a week. OK, twice a week. At least.

I like giving (and getting) thank you messages for the Karma. I try to leave a note to tell them why I am giving it and I especially like the notes people send to me when they give me Karma. It's just a nice "warm fuzzy" to show that their (and your) time in making comments is appreciated. It's those little notes that come with the Karma that I like the best!

There can NEVER be too many "warm fuzzies" in the world.

I don't go the the User CP alot, so I'm often not aware that someone has given me karma until a good amount of time has passed. By then, memory being what it is . . .
