E-reader cartoon in Sept 14th "New Yorker"
There's a gag cartoon about e-readers on pg 90 of this week's "New Yorker" mag.
It's not very funny, but I guess it shows that E-readers are now part of mainstream culture. Here's the link: http://www.newyorker.com/humor/issue...=12#showHeader |

I thought it was kind of funny. I can see some people wanting their reader to have a certain "smell".

Thanks DojoPat! That was a lot funnier than anything in this morning's comics section!

I have still never met a single other person (in "real life") that has one. Every time I read mine in public I get questions about it.

I have seen a few e-readers out in the wild so far, but it is definitely not a common sight. As far as people asking about them, thats got to be a good way to spread the word, especially if you live somewhere they aren't really being marketed.

I seem to run into a couple in airports and on the planes. In other locations -- particularly in restaurants -- I get the questions. "What's that?" "Books? Really?" "How many?" "Where'd you get it?"

I wouldn't say people who read the new yorker are mainstream. They are the kinds of people who are generally avid readers and consumers of news. The mainstream is busy watching Fox news and may not even know what a Kindle is (apart from hearing it's name on a news program).
