Kindle for PC: Won't Download any Archived Books
So I downloaded and installed Kindle for PC. I'm running Windows 7, by the way.
The software let me sign in and view my archived items, but when I click on the one-and-only book I've thusfar purchased, and try to transfer it to my "home" folder, aka, "download" the book, it hangs up, saying, "Now Downloading [book title]. It will automatically open when download is complete". Then, after 5 minutes or so, I get the message, "We were unable to download the book. Please try again later."...no explanation of what went wrong, nothing. I have 60mb internet, if it takes 60 seconds on 3g, it should be instantaneous on my cable connection. Any ideas what might be going wrong? I've tried launching the program as administrator, it didn't make any difference. Help! Last edited by matt314159; 08-05-2010 at 08:24 PM. |

I'm having the same issue with my Kindle 2 now. Me thinks there is something rotten in the state of Amazonia.
Doesn't seem to be a problem with the 3G since I'm able to buy new books through the Kindle, I just can't get them down to the Kindle. It was able to accept an email address change to the Kindle settings... Humm Last edited by NormHart; 08-05-2010 at 08:30 PM. |

Argh!!! Thanks for the reply, at least I know it's not just me. Right when I try using it for the very first time, no less. I have a knack for timing. One time I hooked up a new TV for my grandparents, and during the time I had everything unplugged, sometime AFTER I unplugged everything, but BEFORE I plugged it all back in, the cable went out. I spent hours trying to figure out what I hooked up wrong, only to find out it wasn't my fault at all. I guess I will just "try again later"...though this isn't exactly leaving a good first impression of their PC software, I must say.
*edit*...can I, perhaps, side-load the content onto my PC from my kindle? I'd suspect it might not work thanks to the DRM, but the thought just occurred to me. It downloaded fine to my k2 via 3g Last edited by matt314159; 08-05-2010 at 08:33 PM. |

nah, didn't work...I kinda figured. I stuck the files in the "My kindle content" folder in my documents folder, and when I loaded kindle for PC, it did show up in "Home"...but when you try to open it, it won't open, telling you to delete and re-download it *facepalm*
*edit*...then I thought I'd get really smart, went to the "Manage My Kindle" and clicked to "download" the book. It gives me the options of which device I want to download it to: *double facepalm* ...guess it doesn't let you download it outside of the Kindle for PC software. Have you considered to downgrade your Kindle for PC version. It's available here. I use this version just fine and keeping it that way 'cause I read in tutorial somewhere that newer version won't play well with DRM-stripped method. I never read in Kindle for PC anyway, mobipocket reader is waaay better.

Amazon's Internet download options appears to be failing at present. I just bought a new ebook and several "download to your computer" attempts have failed. I also tried an older ebook, and it failed too.

Surprisingly, Deregistering/uninstalling the newest version, and installing the older version linked above, did the trick. The file downloaded and opened successfully.

Wow, I didn't realize whispernet was having problems as well, that's odd. I downloaded my book fine via 3g, but then again that was probably 2 hours ago now, maybe I got it right before the problems started.

I'm pretty sure it was a server issue. Seems to have been resolved. 10 Internets for the Amazon IT guys!
