The price is targeted at under $1,000 per unit, with customer trials starting in the third quarter, limited availability in December 2010, and general availability in the first quarter of 2011. Longer term, we would not be surprised if the Cius is sold into the consumer market; however, that is not the intent of Cisco's initial version.

It has a 7" screen, Android, and a $1000 price tag? I must be missing something.

Possibly a high price due to the applications installed on it? I'd imagine that they are not cheap. This isn't a consumer device.

Actually, not too high a price if you consider that it should integrate seamlessly in the cisco UC infrastructure, has cisco Telepresence interoperability, brings Webex compatibility to Android, brings the cisco VPN client to Android (!), and is usable as a touchscreen phone with the dock...
If you then add the cisco support and tac access, you will have the reason for the cost.

cheers,

kaas

p.s.: imagine the boost to the Android plattform after cisco tools become compatible!
