eHarlequin changing their ebook format to ePub only as of 3/2011
Not sure if people here actually use eHarlequin, but I have purchased a number of books from this site over the years. Here is an announcement I just saw on their website:
Ebook Format Update As of March 2011, in the eHarlequin Ebook Store only, Harlequin ebooks will be exclusively available in Adobe EPUB format, the industry standard format for ebooks. Additional formats will continue to be available from other booksellers. Starting December 2010, January new releases will no longer be available in the Mobipocket format. As of February 2011, Adobe PDF and Microsoft ebooks will no longer be supported. Any previously purchased titles are available for download through your Bookshelf, in the format you originally purchased. Just an FYI Last edited by chilady1; 12-07-2010 at 04:56 PM. |

This probably means that it is the format providers (e.g. Amazon for Kindle) who will take the ePub and convert it into their format. If Harlequin was producing the MOBI format (and therefore the AZW for Kindle), there would be little reason to stop selling them.

Well, it does kind of make sense. There really is just E-pub and Amazon these days.
Looking at their site, while they put out mobi it used DRM and thus was not usable on the Kindle anyway. I guess maybe some old readers might use that, but everything else is e-pub now. |

Interesting - especially when a lot of their current titles aren't even offered in ePub. I like their Spice publishing label, but when I try to buy Spice books it's normally a crapshoot whether the book will be available in ePub - most likely not. Hopefully as a part of this they're planning to spend some time converting the titles already available to epub...
