Sluggish performance

Every so often the device slows down noticeably, though just now the battery indicator was still showing three bars. I plugged it in to recharge, and the page turns were their normal speed again. Anyone else noticed a similar x50 battery issue?

I have not had anything like you've described happen with my 650.

Are you noticing this sluggishness with every book or one particular book?

It happened a couple of months ago, and then just now. I was halfway through a book, so not sure it could be related to that specifically. If I had to guess, I'd say the battery was lower than the indicator was showing? The whole device went into slow motion, not just regarding that specific book. Bringing the battery level back to a full charge has restored the snappy page turns. I'm hoping the battery isn't somehow "failing"?

I haven't noticed any sluggishness in my 650 but the battery drain was bad before I sent it in for replacement. I read about 2-3hrs/day and I had to charge it every 3-5 days or so. Horrible!

I may be wrong, but I don't think a low battery would cause any computer (and an e-reader is one after all) to operate slower. They supply a steady current, or none at all (which is why you can't overclock by simply upping the power). Likely, the problem is in some lingering background process. Connecting and disconnecting restarts the reader's application, so likely gets rid of the lingering process.

Several people have posted previously that using notes can create a slow-down. I have experienced it as well. It was speculated that it was a background process running. I have found that simply powering off-on works fine rather than a battery recharge. You might try that if it occurs again.

I've had my 650's battery meter display no bars at all with no decrease in performance. So I don't think a low battery would be the problem.

I've tried powering down as a solution - no difference. I never make notes, period.

It could be something within the book I suppose - or just one of those glitches? It could be book-specific I suppose ...

I've had this happen with a few books. In my case it had to do with the size of the html files inside the epub. Most html files are well under 100K. I forget at what point it starts to slow the reader down, but whenever I see anything above 150K, I try to split the file if I can (and when I did this with the sluggish books, they returned to normal). If there's a file over 300K, my PRS-350 won't even open the book and gives me a "Page Error!" message.

Sometimes an ebook can disagree with the reader. It will affect the reader not only when you are reading the book but all the time. It can make the reader unstable.

Solution is to remove all books from the reader then perform a hard factory reset (look it up on this forum for instructions).
